What is the ECO4 scheme?

ECO 4 Scheme

  • Free Govenment Funded Grants

The ECO4 scheme is the final part of an ongoing government initiated scheme to support low-income households and to create more energy efficient homes. As of April 2022 it replaced its previous iteration with the aim of improving the energy efficiency of more UK households.

Energies of the Future specialises in Energy Company Obligation (ECO) grants, which are provided at no cost to our customers, so that any energy efficiency upgrade for your home will be fully funded by your energy provider.

  • Who is eligible for ECO4 scheme?

The energy efficiency measures available through ECO4 scheme consultation are given via eligibility criteria.

If you are on qualifying benefits, and you’re a homeowner or a private tenant, you are likely to be eligible for support from energy suppliers via this scheme from April 2022.

If you’re a landlord and your tenant claims benefits, you may encourage them to apply for the grant, thus improving your property energy efficiency for years to come by installing free electric storage heaters or fulfilling insulation grants such as free cavity wall insulation or loft insulation grant.

If you’re not on benefits, but your home is still energy inefficient, you might be eligible for the scheme through flexible eligibility (LAFlex) program that some councils participate in.

  • What does ECO mean

ECO means the Energy Company Obligation, of which there have been four parts.

It is a policy that aims to make homes warmer and households’ emissions lower, as well as making large energy companies accountable for supporting income-restricted households. In other words,

ECO is all about energy saving while offering hardship grants for single mothers, fathers, people with disabilities and families who struggle financialy in general.

It is also subject to primary legislation industrial strategy and uses a whole house approach to lower fuel poverty via improved heating systems.

You can familiarise yourself with ECO4 final stage impact assessment on the government website. The document includes changes, scoring methodology and minimum requirements to allow local authority referrals (through LA Flex – Flexible Eligibility) and private energy efficiency installers to implement the final phase of the ECO consultation.

  • What benefits qualify for ECO4?
